Original Meeting Houses

Updated: Jan 21

On August 19, 1877, Brigham Young gave his final public address while forming the Box Elder Stake In Brigham City. He divided the city into 4 wards along Main and Forest Street. Each ward constructed small meeting houses, that were also used as schools, before building larger meeting houses later. The First Ward named their school "Webster" and was also known as the Old Rock Church. It is the only one still standing and is owned by the Presbyterian Church.  The Second Ward built the Whittier School, the Third Ward built the Emerson School, and the Fourth Ward built the Columbia School. Of the later, larger meeting houses, only the Third Ward building remains.
