Independence Day in Brigham City: Then and Now
Compton photo of Main Street in Brigham City decorated for Independence Day circa 1914. The Eddy building is in both photographs and the building peaking out just left of the flags is the building that now houses the Idle Isle. Zimmerman's pool and billiards parlor was replaced by the Hotel Brigham. Another point of interest is the hanging light that is also just left of the flag. Rumor is that the light was placed there, at the corner of Forest and Main, to notify the police when City Hall had a notification for them (this was prior to radio contact.) City Hall would turn the light on and the officers on duty could see the light when they passed by Main or Forest. This light is in many photographs of this spot.
Happy Independence Day!
