Home of Oliver G. Snow on corner of 308 South Main Street
Oliver G. Snow was born in Great Salt Lake City in 1849 and later came to Brigham City with his father, Lorenzo Snow, and his mother, Mary Adaline Goddard Snow. He grew up in Brigham City and was the owner of the Bank of Brigham City and also became the stake president, after his father, in 1877. He was often named in the Brigham Bugler as “Banker Snow.” He owned the home east of the tabernacle (currently Myers Mortuary) but built an even larger “mansion” at 308 S. Main street. The home was completed around August of 1892. It boasted 18 rooms and was wired for both gas and electric lights.
The labeling of a photograph of this home in the courthouse appears to be incorrect. O.G. Snow appears to have lived in the home from its completion to around 1896. John Anderson lived in the home from about 1896 until approximately 1909, when he moved his family and knitting business (the Anderson Knitting Factory is now used as a home directly west of where the family home was on Main). After John Anderson, Joseph Hansen bought the home and lived in it while he ran his company, Hansen Mercantile, that later became Central Chevrolet (before being destroyed and City Hall being built in its place.) The home was later used as a mortuary before being destroyed and repurposed as a used car lot. It is now South Fork Hardware.

Brigham City was known as the “City of Homes” for many years. During the Peach Days celebration this year, the Historic Brigham City Association is planning a public presentation on this and other homes that Brigham has had through the years.
